Each month, we put the spotlight on the progress of various projects in and around the state of Victoria. This time, we look at the Retail/Hospitality sector and the latest updates from three ongoing projects – the Geelong Quarter Development, Park Hotel Development and Karingal Hub Shopping Centre Redevelopment.

Geelong Quarter

Project: Geelong Quarter Development

Status: Builder Appointed

Developer: Franze Developments

Contractor: Maxcon

Construction Start Date: Late 2019

Construction End Date: Late 2020

Value: $150m

Franze Developments’ $150 million Geelong Quarter precinct is set to commence later this year with Maxcon appointed head contractor. Demolition is already complete on the 2,700 sqm site at 44 Ryrie Street, making room for a significant mixed-use project which will also comprise of the largest new hotel in the region in two decades.

The development will include construction of a 180-room Holiday Inn & Suites hotel, 14 luxury apartments, a 1000 sqm retail plaza as well as 7,400 sqm of commercial office space.

As Geelong continues to undergo exponential growth, this development will provide a visual gateway into the city centre and one worth keeping an eye on.

Park Hotel

Project: Park Hotel Development

Status: Tenderers Named

Developer: Roxy-Pacific

Tenderers: Hacer Group, Hutchinson Builders, The Crema Group

Construction Start Date: October 2019

Construction End Date: February 2022

Value: $68m

Construction on the Park Hotel Development is set to commence later this year with Roxy-Pacific Holdings requesting proposals from three shortlisted contractors.

Hacer Group, Hutchinson Builders and The Crema Group will offer tenders for this development on Little Bourke Street, Melbourne. The 23-storey hotel will encompass 319 guest rooms, a fitness centre, five function rooms as well as a concept restaurant and bar.

With Roxy-Pacific Holdings growing its hotel portfolio in the country, this project will be a significant one for the company as well as the city of Melbourne.

Karingal Hub Shopping Centre

Project: Karingal Hub Shopping Centre Redevelopment

Status: Tenderers Named

Developer: ISPT

Tenderers: Probuild Constructions, Built, Multiplex, Hacer Group

Construction Start Date: November 2019

Construction End Date: Late 2021

Value: $62m

Tenderers have been named for the $62m expansion of Karingal Hub shopping centre, with Probuild Constructions, Built, Multiplex and the Hacer Group all preparing proposals before the anticipated start date in late 2019.

The redevelopment will see more space for retail outlets and restaurants whilst existing shops will also get a facelift. The project is expected to create over 200 jobs during construction and 300 full ongoing and part time jobs. The plans also include an additional 762 car parking spaces.

Earmarked to be completed in late 2021, the project aims to offer a community focal point, connecting the retail centre with the entertainment hub.
