Project Spotlight: Infrastructure

Each month, we put the spotlight on the progress of various projects in and around the state of Victoria. This time, we look at Infrastructure and the latest updates from three road, rail and power projects.
Avon Rail Bridge
Project: Avon Rail Bridge Replacement
Status: Tenderers Named
Construction Start Date: Late 2019
Construction End Date: Early 2021
Developer: Public Transport Victoria
Tenderers: Downer, CPB Contractors, Coleman Rail & Decmil Australia
Value: $95m
With contractor proposals due early 2019, Rail Projects Victoria (RPV) is expected to award the design and construction contract mid this year. Four tenderers have been named for the new bridge replacement in Stratford, which includes an upgrade of the McAlister Street level crossing.
Downer, CPB Contractors and Coleman Rail (via a joint venture with Decmil) are currently preparing tenders on how they will deliver the project – an integral component of the $530 million Gippsland Line Upgrade.
Construction is due to commence late 2019, with a targeted completion date of early 2021. Overall, the new structure will offer commuters a vast improvement on travel times coupled with safety and comfort. Keep an eye on this one!
Monash Freeway
Project: Monash Freeway Extension
Status: Tenderers Named
Construction Start Date: Mid 2019
Construction End Date: Late 2022
Developer: Vic Roads
Tenderers: CPB Contractors, John Holland, Lendlease Engineering
Value: $711m
Construction on the second stage of the Monash Freeway Upgrade is now set to commence mid 2019 with Vic Roads requesting proposals from three shortlisted contractors.
CPB Contractors, John Holland and Lendlease Engineering will offer tenders for this major infrastructure project, which will add 36 kilometres of new lanes between Warrigal Road and Eastlink and from Clyde Road to Cardinia Road. Works will include an upgrade to the Beaconsfield Interchange as well as extending O’Shea Road in Berwick.
As one of the States most anticipated major roads projects, co-funded by the Federal and Victorian government, ($500m and $211m respectively), this is one to look out for in 2019.
Horsham Solar Farm
Project: Horsham Solar Farm Development
Status: Post Tender
Construction Start Date: February 2019
Construction End Date: Late 2019
Developer: ESCO Pacific
Tender Status: Closed (details of tenderers not specified)
Value: $160m
Expressions of interest for this project were released in late 2018 with tenders now closed. The contract is expected to be awarded early this year, in time for a February commencement date, however, the details of the tenderers are currently undisclosed.
Due to be completed by the end of 2019, the Horsham Solar Farm is a utility scale renewable energy project (with an output measuring up to 130 megawatts) that will generate clean and renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes.
The solar farm will span approximately 196 hectares and comprise of 340,000 solar panels. Works will include comprehensive civil and electrical works as well as mechanical assembly, steel supply and temporary building construction.
