5 Exciting Road Projects for 2018/2019

The civil sector in Victoria is booming, and with that boom comes some exciting projects earmarked for the future. In the last few years over $9 billion has been allocated to roads by the state government with more still to come. Below are we are showcasing a selection of 5 projects currently in the concept stages.

 

Highway Duplication | Ballarat | $10 million
Western Hwy (Ararat – Stawell) Section 3 Burrumbeet

Part of the $672 million Western Highway Duplication Masterplan, section 3 is in the early planning stage with feasibility studies currently underway. The project (with an estimated start date TBC) is expected to be allocated additional funding by the federal government in 2018/2019. An open tender is expected to be called shortly.

The scope of section 3 includes:

  • 2 lanes in each direction
  • Central median line
  • Intersection upgrades
  • Landscaping
  • Major earthworks
  • Noise walls
  • Drainage reconstruction
  • Pavement reconstruction
  • Associated works

Design Consultant: BMD Constructions Pty Ltd
Design Engineer: AECOM Australia Pty Ltd

Roundabout Upgrade | Narre Warren South | $5.2 million
Greaves Rd & Berwick Springs Promenade intersection

Functional designs are completed, and a planning application is expected to be submitted with the method of appointing a contractor yet to be determined. The scope of works includes: Relocation of existing entry, concrete works,roadworks, bulk earthworks, excavation, line marking, signage, traffic management and associated civil & site works

Bypass extension (Mordialloc Bypass) | Aspendale Gardens | $300 million
Mordialloc Bypass (between Springvale Rd, Aspendale Gardens & Dingley Bypass, Dingley Village

Funding has been allocated by the state government for a 9 km bypass extension and associated civil and site works, with a business case study in progress. Project scope has yet to be determined.

Developer: VicRoads – Metro South East Region

North East Link Freeway | Melbourne | $10 billion
Connection between Metropolitan Ring Rd, Greensborough & Eastern Melbourne

A business case study is in progress, with the hopes of additional funding to be allocated by the state government. To date, there are 3 route options

Route 1: Eastern option (Metropolitan Ring Rd to EastLink via Kangaroo Ground & Chirnside Pk)
Route 2: Central option (Metropolitan Ring Rd to EastLink via Eltham & Warrandyte)
Route 3: Western option (Metropolitan Ring Rd to Eastern Fwy at Bulleen via Watsonia)

Tenders expected to be called late 2018.
Stage: Concept (Feasibility)
Start: 2019
Developer: North East Link Authority

Road Safety Improvement Works | Sunbury | $20 million
Melbourne – Lancefield Rd Sunbury

With draft concept plans in progress and funding allocated from the 2018/2018 state budget, phase 2 public comments will be invited in June 2017.

It is expected the project to include 35kms road duplication, kerb &  channel construction, pavement reconstruction and road shoulder widening.
